Product Quality Control

Third-party testing is done routinely to monitor product quality. Water samples, extender and semen doses are tested every month for bacteria. Random semen doses are also sent in for third-party evaluation every month to be assessed for multiple semen characteristics.

Birchwood utilizes Sperm Vision®, a computer-assisted semen-analysis (CASA) technology, to standardize the evaluation and processing of all semen doses. Additionally, Birchwood conducts in-house testing for dose concentrations by randomly checking doses from each production facility every week. NucleoCounter® technology is used to benchmark and correlate results for process-control.

Samples are kept from every batch of semen that is processed. These samples are evaluated for motility multiple times through day seven. Customers are notified if the product falls out of acceptable range for minimum standards for motility between delivery and day seven.
